Through this programme youths, who haven’t attended school regularly, have the chance to attain the school leaving certificate from a secondary modern school. Just like in Germany this certificate is the lesser qualification required for taking up an apprenticeship. Without this certificate you are not even allowed to learn to drive.
For groups of youths, who want to achieve this certificate, LITD organizes regular evening lessons. Two or three times a week they are taught the subject matter by teachers and, in addition to that, the young people have to study on their own for several hours. To make it easier for them to summon up the necessary discipline and endurance, they live together in a group sharing a flat. Some of them have a part-time job with LITD or in another place of work.
It is planned to employ these young people, who come from the ghetto, as full-time collaborators for our work.
