A lot of the ghetto children suffer from malnutrition or lack of vitamins because their families live in great poverty or the parents don’t feed them properly.

To help these many starving and neglected children in the area, in June 2009, the youths of two house groups established a soup kitchen for them. At first about 40 children between three and six were provided with food. This feeding programme has now become an integral part of LITD.

The kitchen is managed by a young woman aided by a group of youths. Together they prepare breakfast, a lunch snack and a warm evening meal for more than 60 children.

The meals are served in a hall and, because there are not enough tables and chairs, they eat in two shifts.

This feeding programme produces balanced and nourishing meals for the children, so no child has to go to bed hungry any more.
